Edd China’s inventiveness and resourcefulness have turned him into one of the most brilliant mechanics and memorable entertainers of our time. His years-long work as a “Wheeler Dealers” host brought him international fame, such that but not even his eventual exit from the show could erase him from the minds of his loyal fans, who faithfully followed him in the next chapter of his life as a YouTube content creator.
Nowadays, Edd is not only respected but also admired for his engineering skills, creativity, and knack for making everything he’s involved with into something both entertaining and light-hearted. However, Edd’s preference for a toned-down off-screen life has also brought up many questions about his personal endeavors, including his fortune, lifestyle, and what hobbies he indulges in, aside from making sometimes crazy cars.
Keep with us to learn about Edd China’s luxury life!
Net Worth
According to online sources, Edd has an estimated net worth of over $3 million, as of early 2025. His fortune results from his long career as a TV personality, inventor, product engineer, and more recently, from his YouTube content creator career.
While “Wheeler Dealers” was the show that gave Edd the most fame and likely contributed the most to his fortune, it’s unclear how much he made during his time in the show. Nonetheless, the audience that supported him on his YouTube channel adventure was massive, thus it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that his current income is made mostly from the entertaining videos he shares online, including the subscriptions from his fans on the paid platform Patreon.
Another important source of income for Edd is his Grease Junkie brand, which includes his apparel and accessory line EddGear, and his WOSPerformance car products. The latter is right up the alley of Edd’s gearhead fans, as the company sells dynators, starter motors, alternators, and other engine parts developed by Edd himself. Most of these products have been seen in full action in the projects showcased on Edd’s YouTube channel.

Lifestyle & Hobbies
Despite his well-established career as a mechanic, engineer, and media creator, Edd China doesn’t reveal much about his personal endeavors. A quick look at his widely popular Instagram and Facebook accounts shows us that Edd is very keen on keeping the most intimate side of his life away from cameras and the public eye, making it hard to see whether his lifestyle matches his well-off financial situation or not.
That said, one thing Edd hasn’t shied away from showing is his deep passion for creating all sorts of things, especially cars. This isn’t a hobby that he acquired recently, as his famous Casual Lofa, which is the first road-ready sofa vehicle in the world, was created by Edd sometime in the late 1980s and early 1990s when he still attended London South Bank University. Though the car wasn’t introduced to the general public until 1998, it didn’t take long for it to attract positive attention and gain Edd the courage he needed to keep creating.
Ever since rising to fame in the early 2000s, Edd has created several vehicles and items through his Cummfy Banana Limited company. One of his most famous creations is the Electric Ice Cream, which holds the Guinness World Record in the fastest electric ice cream van category. Other Guinness record titles Edd has achieved are the fastest office, fastest motorized shopping trolley, and fastest milk float, among others, making it clear where his interests lay when it comes to his free time – speed!
TV Career
While Edd China’s eye-catching creations tell us a lot about how his creativity works and what he enjoys doing the most off-screen, his job as a former TV personality-turned-online-creator is what brings his masterful creations to a higher level of recognition.

However, Edd had to walk a long path to achieve a stable spot on TV. His first job on TV was in the legendary Irish sitcom “Father Ted”, which aired from 1995 to 1998 and became an all-time classic. Edd joined the show as a special effects technician, putting his creativity into making a battered Rover, become one of “Father Ted”’s most recognizable visual icons. As Edd affirmed in an interview with the Irish Times, he spent a week working on the car to make it look bad, though he also admits that as a new guy, most of his ideas were ignored by the production staff.
Despite being ‘paid to laugh’, Edd also admitted that it was shocking to find out how exhausted people on TV were, from just working in the industry . Nonetheless, that didn’t seem to stop him, as during the next couple of years his TV appearances increased, firstly as a guest in “Top Gear”, and then taking part in “The Most Outrageous Jeremy Clarkson Video In The World…. Ever!” filmed-for-a DVD special. He also appeared in “Scrapheap Challenge” and “This Is Your Life”, so getting to display some of his rare vehicle inventions.
Career On Media & Future
Following his early success as a TV show guest, Edd China gained enough recognition to be given a show of his own. His big opportunity came in 2003 with Discovery Channel, which had him co-hosting the famous “Wheeler Dealers” alongside Mike Brewer.
The show undoubtedly launched Edd and Mike to international stardom, and cemented both of their reputation as car experts. Though “Wheeler Dealers” was initially filmed in the UK, production changes pushed the show to be moved to the US for the 11th season.
Much to the shock of his fans, Edd willingly left the show in early 2017. This move came after he’d finished filming the 13th season and, as he explained in a YouTube video from the time, was because he wasn’t comfortable with the way the show’s format was about to change. One of the most prominent arguments he exposed was the reduction of the detail that characterized the show, and so his work on it.
Edd’s exit from “Wheeler Dealers” elicited mixed opinions, eventually awakening backlash against the show’s producers, which was widely covered by the media. Nonetheless, it wasn’t time for Edd to retract his decision, thus starting a secondary YouTube channel called Edd China’s Garage Revival, which was meant to become a long-term project, but being abandoned after only four videos.
These days, Edd is entirely focused on his main YouTube channel, which has gained more than a million subscribers and affords him creative freedom. Though his old “Wheeler Dealers” fans surely miss him on screen, this path Edd walks now seems more fitting for his career.
