YouTube’s channel Matt’s Off-Road Recovery is one of those online shows that has something for everyone. Ever since they started sharing videos in early 2019, Matt Wetzel and his expert towing team have done wonders to not only entertain their audience with their adventures, but also to push the business forward while gaining worldwide fame.

One great aspect of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery is that the show is about more than just towing, as the cast who accompany Matt also attracts a lot of viewers thanks to their antics and light-humored personalities. One of those unforgettable people is Lizzy Stout, who broke many audiences’ hearts when she surprisingly left the online show in 2023.
So what happened to Lizzy – why did she leave? Who else has also left the show, and what’s in the future for Matt’s Off-Road Recovery? Learn all about it next!
Why Did Lizzy Leave Matt’s Off-Road Recovery?
As one of the most popular and beloved members of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery, seeing Lizzy Stout go off the show was bittersweet both for the audience and their former co-workers. It all happened in July 2023, when the YouTube channel posted the video entitled “I Never Expected This…”, which was solely centered on her send-off from the team.
According to Lizzy, she was planning on moving away from Hurricane to another town in Utah, where she’s meant to accomplish her dreams of ranching. She also affirmed that she wanted to horse ride and take overall care of her husband’s family’s cattle, whether that results in them buying some part of the land or moving to another ranch in the future. As part of Lizzy’s send-off party, she was given a new pick-up truck by Matt.
While casual viewers of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery might have been taken by surprise at Lizzy’s departure, those who had been following her on her social media may have expected this turn of events. Though Lizzy seemed to enjoy her welding job at the shop, she was never slick about her love for ranching and rodeo riding, as fans on Reddit commented at the time.
Despite Lizzy affirming that she would appear in Matt’s Off-Road Recovery of the situation called it, she’s yet to reappear in the videos. It’s also worth noting that Lizzy’s social media has been mostly inactive since her departure.
Who Else Left The Show?
Several beloved stars of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery have left the online show over the years, though in most cases, their departure wasn’t as widely covered or talked about as Lizzy’s.
Rudy
Although it isn’t rare for employees to choose another career path, or leave their jobs for various reasons, many didn’t expect Rudy to leave. As Matt Wetzel’s son, many assumed that Rudy would inherit the business, or stick with it for a few more years, yet he decided to branch out in early 2022, to walk his own career path.
As Rudy himself affirmed in an interview with the YouTube channel Decent Garage, personal growth was one of the reasons he decided to leave. He also mentioned that the tight filming schedule of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery videos didn’t allow him to ‘tell his story’, and gain experience handle off-the-scene struggles that he actually wanted to deal with.
Seeing all the reasons he had to leave, it was only expected of Rudy to find a place where he could share what made him truly happy. That’s how he started Rudys Adventure and Design, also known as RAD, a YouTube channel focused on car fabrication works. His website also allows fans to purchase his original merchandise.
Starting a YouTube channel was a smart move for Rudy, allowing him to take control of his content and grow his own audience, gaining over 250,000 subscribers in less than two years of debuting.
Trevor, Tucker, Skeeter & TomTom
Other well-liked former members of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery are Trevor, Tucker, and Skeeter, all of whom left in late 2022.
Unlike Lizzy’s case, not much was said about their departure, despite the many comments that fans of the channel left on social media, inquiring about their disappearance. The only comment that Matt made about this was in the October 2022 video entitled “Is This Enough For The World’s Largest Wrecker?”, in which he affirms that Skeeter and Trevor had simply ‘moved on’ and weren’t fired, contrary to much speculating. He also made it clear that he was on good terms with both of them, and that they were friends.
Regarding Tucker, it’s unclear what led the video editor to leave the crew, but nowadays he appears on the YouTube channel MisAdventure Lab, alongside other former Matt’s Off-Road Recovery crew members such as Trevor. In a video shared by the channel in July 2024, the pair gave an update on some of the former members of Matt’s crew, including Skeeter and TomTom, who all still live in Hurricane and now work in the automotive fabrication field.
That said, Tucker and Trevor’s current channel isn’t centered on recoveries or cars but on technology, bringing the pair to try out several devices and other everyday curiosities.
What Will Happen To Matt’s Off-Road Recovery?
While Matt’s Off-Road Recovery is up and going, there’s no denying that the YouTube channel has lost a lot of crew members in the last couple of years. While the reason for such a high turnover is unclear, due to this fans can’t help but worry about the channel’s future.
That said, there’s no indication of Matt’s Off-Road Recovery coming to an end any time soon, even despite the many changes the channel has been through. Their subscriber count is still high and increasing, while their online shop is actively launching merchandise just as in the old times, and shows no signs of slowing down.
So what else is in store for Matt’s Off-Road Recovery? That’s unclear, but much to their loyal viewers’ joy, the channel just keeps on thriving and thriving.
