Who is Sin Cara?

Jose Jorge Arriaga Rodriguez – aka Sin Cara – was born in El Paso, Texas USA, on 5 September 1977, so Virgo’s his zodiac sign; he holds both Mexican and American nationality. He’s perhaps best known for the time he spent wrestling in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), while he’s today competing in the Mexican independent circuit, and goes by the ring name Cinta de Oro.

Education and early life

Sin Cara was raised in El Segundo Barrio, El Paso, by his Mexican parents who came to the US not long before he was born; he hasn’t spoken of having siblings, so it’s believed that Sin Cara’s an only child.

He studied at El Paso Burges High School and it was during his second year there that he began wrestling – during his final year in 1996, Sin Cara was the undefeated State Wrestling Champion, and was also voted Most Valuable Player (MVP).

He then studied at a college in Mexico, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in embalming and funeral director services in 2000.

Career as a professional wrestler

Sin Cara worked for his family’s funeral home in the first half of the decade, while also steadily making a name for himself in wrestling.

He initially wrestled as the masked persona Mistico, but had to change the name because Paco Alonso owned the legal rights to it, thus starting to use ‘Mistico de Juarez’ and ‘Mystico’. Sin Cara began attracting attention on 2 February 2004, when he became the World Wrestling Association (WWA) Middleweight Champion by defeating Nicho El Millonario; he was stripped of the title after only a month, because he was no longer allowed to wrestle in WWA.

He signed a contract with Luche Libre AAA Worldwide in 2004, and was known as ‘Incognito’ during his time with the promotion; he left AAA in 2005 and then focused on wrestling in independent promotions in both the USA and Mexico.

He competed in the 2006 World X-Cup Tournament organized by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), and was defeated by American professional wrestler Retesh Bhalla. Sin Cara was then signed to National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), and he and Luchador Sicodelico Jr. won the 2007 NWA World Tag Team Championship, but losing not long after that to Karl Anderson and Joey Ryan.

He wrestled in the Chikara promotion for the first time on 22 September 2007, when his eight-member team lost against The Kings of Wrestling. He returned to Chikara in the following year, forming Los Luchadores de Mexico together with Lince Dorado and El Pantera, and winning the 2008 King of Trios Tournament.

In 2009, Sin Cara made two appearances for the wrestling promotion Ring of Honor, then had his ‘try out’ match for WWE on 14 December 2009, when The Dudebusters defeated him in a tag team match – Sin Cara used the ring name Jorge Arias and wore no mask. He was then signed to WWE and began appearing in their Florida Championship Wrestling league. Sin Cara began using Hunico as his ring name, and together with Tito Colon lost to The Uso Brothers in the Florida Tag Team Championships. After his teammate Tito changed his name to Epico, the two men renamed their team to Los Aviadores, and defeated The Uso Brothers on 3 June 2010, thus becoming the Florida Tag Team Champions; they lost the title to Michael and Kaval McGillicutty on 15 July, but regained it a day later.

He became known as Sin Cara in August 2011, and together with Camacho lost to R-Truth and Kofi Kingston in the WWE Tag Team Championships.

He appeared in the wrestling promotion Raw on 2 December 2013, when he defeated Alberto Del Rio; this was the beginning of Sin Cara’s winning streak, which was eventually ended by Del Rio on 6 January 2014.

He faced and lost to Braun Strowman in Raw on 5 September 2016, and on 10 October of the same year, Sin Cara teamed up with Lince Dorado in a winning effort against Drew Gulak and Tony Nese.

He was granted a release from his WWE contract on 8 December 2019, then only six days later signed once again with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He revealed on 17 December 2019 that he chose ‘Cinta de Oro’ as his new ring name, and one of his recent notable performances was when he and Pagano defeated El Hijo Del Impostor and Aereo on 19 April 2020.

Love life and wife

Sin Cara rarely speaks about his love life, but it’s known that he’s today in a long-term relationship with American professional wrestler Lara, who’s currently signed to WWE.

Sin Cara and Lara’s son is today 13 years old, while their daughter’s eight; Sin Cara’s recently revealed in an interview that his son’s become interested in wrestling, and has already begun training.

He hasn’t spoken of other women whom he’s perhaps been with, but many of Sin Cara’s fans believe that he had previously been in a long-term relationship with a non-celebrity American woman, while others claim that they were also married; this hasn’t been addressed by Sin Cara.

He’s in a long-term relationship with Lara as of February 2023, and they have two children together.

Interesting facts and hobbies

WWE had Sin Cara take anger management classes in November 2016, after he got into a fight with both Christopher Keith Irvine aka Chris Jericho, and Seth Lesser aka Sion Gotch.

One of his closest friends is Mexican professional soccer player Raul Alonso Jimenez Rodriguez, who’s currently playing for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League.

Sin Cara’s first video game to be featured in was “WWE’13”, while he then appeared in five WWE games from 2016 through 2020.
