Who is Jared Rushton?

Jared Michael Rushton was born in Provo, Utah USA on 3 March 1974 – his zodiac sign is Pisces, and he holds American nationality. He’s a former actor and a musician, who’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Billy in the 1988 critically acclaimed fantasy comedy movie “Big”. Written by Anne Spielberg and Gary Ross and directed by Penny Marshall, it starred Tom Hanks, Elizabeth Perkins and Robert Loggia., and follows a teenager who has wished to be an adult at an adventure park, and the next morning wakes up as a grown up man. It won 11 of the 25 awards for which it was nominated, including two Oscar nominations.

Jared retired from acting in 2000, and has since been focused on music.

Early life, family and education

Jared was raised alongside his brother Ryan in Provo, by their mother Monica Rushton, and their father about whom nothing’s known, believed by some to have abandoned the family before Jared was born.

He was still very young when he was noticed by a talent scout, who asked his mother to take him to an audition. Jared then appeared in many TV commercials, and launched his acting career in 1986 aged 12, with his portrayal of Richie in the episode “A Serpent’s Tooth” of the fantasy comedy series “Tales from the Darkside”.

He continued acting throughout his entire education, and a couple of Jared’s following roles were in the 1986 episode “The Marathon” of the mystery crime series “Cagney & Lacey”, the 1987 fantasy science fiction movie “Top Kids”, and the  romantic comedy movie “Overboard” also in 1987.

Jared was into various activities while attending a local high school, but still remained focused on acting. He matriculated in 1992, and then chose not to pursue a college degree, but to focus on his career as an actor.

In 1988, Jared was cast to play Donald, in the critically acclaimed fantasy mystery horror “Lady in White”.

It was written and directed by Frank LaLoggia, starred Lukas Haas, Len Cariou and Alex Rocco, and follows a young boy who’s growing up in a small US city in the ‘60s, and who has witnessed the murder of a young girl.

In 1989, he portrayed Ron Thompson in another popular movie, the family adventure comedy “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids”, which follows a man who’s a scientist, and has accidentally shrunk his two children and their two neighbors kids. The year 1990 saw Jared play Brian in the action adventure thriller “A Cry in the Wild”, and the same year saw him play Rodney Barnes, in the fantasy comedy “… Where’s Rodney?”

His only two other movie roles were in the 1992 fantasy horror “Pet Sematary II”, and the 1994 drama “The Yarn Princess”.

In 1988, Jared played Travis Harmon, in the episode “Coal Miner’s Slaughter” of the mystery crime drama “Murder, She Wrote”, and the following years saw him appear in an episode or two of various series, such as the comedy drama “Roseanne”, the drama “Midnight Caller” and the comedy “Camp Wilder”.

In 1992, Jared was invited to make a guest appearance in an episode of the drama “Life Goes On”, and the following year saw him make a guest appearance in the episode “Bad Water”, of the family western drama “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”. He gained recognition in 1996, when he starred as Wesley Buttons, in the western mini-series “Dead Man’s Walk”. It starred F. Murray Abraham, Keith Carradine and Patricia Childress, and follows two young men, who have joined the Texas Rangers.

He’s a philanthropist, who has worked with various charity organizations, while he has also both volunteered with and donated money to several animal shelters.

Jared’s quite passionate about travelling, and has been to various US states for both work and pleasure, while he and his wife have also travelled to a couple of Asian and European countries.

Some of his favorite actors and actresses are Robert De Niro, the late Heath Ledger and Natalie Portman, and his favorite films include the trilogy “The Godfather”, “The Dark Knight” and “V for Vendetta”.
