Elva Guerra is an upcoming American actress, who’s perhaps best known for her appearance in the TV series “Reservation Dogs” and “Dark Winds.”
Age, Early Life, and Education Background
Elva Guerra is a native of McAlester, Oklahoma, who was born under the Gemini zodiac sign on 2 June 2004, which makes her almost 20 years old as of early 2024. She hasn’t revealed the names and professions of her parents, but comes from a diverse ethnic background, believed to include roots from the Ponca Nation and Asia. It’s reported that the budding actress was brought up alongside seven siblings. She spent part of her childhood in Los Angeles, California.
Guerra attended the Oklahoma-based Talihina High School, and matriculated to Friends University, Missouri, where she’s currently studying forg a bachelor’s degree.
Career – “Reservation Dogs”
Elva hadn’t received any formal acting training or acted before when on Instagram in2020 she learned about a casting search for the FX on Hulu TV drama, “Reservation Dogs”. Nonetheless, she went on to book an audition hoping to secure the role of Elora Danan. The then-16-year-old Elva delivered all the lines she was given professionally, and gave the best read she could, based on what she’d learned through a school film class. However, she didn’t get the role but was luckily selected to portray another character, a Native American teen named Jackie. Elva believes that she was selected because she was the only Native kid in the hall who had dyed hair – at the time, the character Jackie had the same hairstyle – which fascinated the Native American filmmaker, and the show’s co-creator, Sterlin Harjo.
Elva began appearing in the TV drama in 2021 – it chronicles the lives of four Indigenous teens (collectively known as the Rez Dogs), Elora (Devery Jacobs), Bear (D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai), Cheese (Lane Factor), and Willie Jack (Paulina Alexis) living on a reservation community in the Muscogee Nation town of rural Oklahoma, where they are preoccupied with ‘committing crimes and fighting it.’ The four rob, steal and save money to leave their small town and escape to the mysterious, exotic, and faraway ‘city’ of California. Elva appeared in 16 episodes during her two-year stint in the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated show.
In an October 2023 interview with “Casting Networks,” Elva expressed gratitude to several people, including Harjo, and her teachers, Mr. Magrini and Ms. Smith, who had contributed to her first-ever casting story, and encouraged her to pursue the opportunity.
Other Projects
In 2021, Elva played Young Charlotte Thomas in an episode of the Peacock network TV sitcom “Rutherford Falls.” Later that year, her “Reservation Dogs” castmate, Zahn McClarnon, recommended her for a role in the AMC TV psychological thriller series, “Dark Winds.” She auditioned, and was selected to portray Sally Growing Thunder. Set in the ‘70s Southwest, the Graham Roland-created TV series follows two Navajo police officers, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon), who team up to look for clues and investigate a homicide while they battle their own beliefs and demons. Elva appeared in 12 episodes, sharing the screen with the likes of McClarnon, Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Taushi Allison. Concurrently, she played Regan in the short film “You and Me This Summer.”
In 2022, Elva appeared in both the TV special, “The 37th Film Independent Spirit Awards” (originally titled: “2022 Film Independent Spirit Award”) and an episode of the documentary series “Show Me More,” which offers a backstage pass to AMC hit shows, features special footage and access to favorite show creators and cast, and documents upcoming projects.

When in a June 2023 interview with “Native News Online,” she was asked whether she identified with the term ‘two-spirit’, Guerra stated, ‘I do…It’s definitely been a journey and kind of a tough time figuring out who and what I am, but I think that one thing that makes me solidify my identity is the word two-spirit and hanging out with other two-spirits and talking to them about that. It’s just a very nice community to have.’
Elva is reportedly dating the photographer, Sean Brumby; the pair is fond of posting their photos and videos on their respective Instagram accounts. Elva is currently living in Kansas City, Missouri, hasn’t married and is without any children as of 2024.
