Luke David Mitchel was born on 17 April 1985, in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and is a child of divorced parents; he has three brothers and a sister. One of his brothers is a tennis coach and another is a professional tennis player who had the best ATP ranking of 109.

While growing up, Luke took up tennis like his brothers, and played until he was 19 years old, but then quit and took up acting.
