Luke David Mitchel was born on 17 April 1985, in the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and is a child of divorced parents; he has three brothers and a sister. One of his brothers is a tennis coach and another is a professional tennis player who had the best ATP ranking of 109.

While growing up, Luke took up tennis like his brothers, and played until he was 19 years old, but then quit and took up acting. He went to Nerang State High School and then trained in acting at the Film and Television Studio International, working with professionals such as Iain Gardner, Dean Carey, Joss McWilliam and Kim Krejus, among others. He joined the international entertainment company Sudden Impact Entertainment, appearing in live theater shows with them.

Luke made his acting debut in 2008 when he successfully auditioned for the role of Chris Knight in the Australian soap opera “Neighbors”.
