We’re used to seeing Jeremy Renner in highly successful and profitable Hollywood productions. He’s known for roles in movies such as “The Hurt Locker”, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”, and “Avengers: Endgame”. However, when he’s not playing characters in million dollar-worth productions, Jeremy is interested in construction work, and giving back to others.
That great combination led to the creation of “Rennervations”, a mini-series focused on reimagining and rebuilding vehicles away from their original purpose, to turn them into useful devices for communities in need. Alongside his superstar cast, Jeremy makes dreams a reality while helping others in this four-episode series.
However, it hasn’t always been an easy path for Jeremy, not only because of the challenging nature of the show, but also for the unfortunate events he went through shortly before “Rennervations” was released in 2023.

What Happened To “Rennervations”?
Disney+’s “Rennervations” premiered in April 2023, centered around Jeremy Renner and his superstar friends, the actor and former “The Hurt Locker” co-star Anthony Mackie, actress Vanessa Hudgens, actor Anil Kapoor, and singer Sebastian Yatra.
Each episode of the show had one of these stars working alongside Jeremy to repurpose a vehicle to make it of use to a community, while accepting tough deadlines. The first episode with Hudgens was filmed in Chicago, where the pair turned a tour bus into an on-the-road music studio for the youth artistic organization The BASE Chicago.
The second episode was filmed in Los Cabos, Mexico, and had Yatra and Jeremy turning a bus into a dance studio for a foster children’s house. The third episode saw Jeremy and Mackie build a recreation center for the mentoring organization of Northern Nevada.
Last but not least, the fourth and last episode saw Jeremy and Indian actor Anil Kapoor build a water treatment center for a vulnerable community in Rajasthan, India. All of these projects were described by Jeremy as his way of making ‘actionability and thoughtfulness of others’ something ‘cool’.
Media Reception
Despite its short format, “Rennervations” was warmly welcomed by audiences and critics. As important outlets such as Variety and Forbes pointed out, the show is an effort to show the importance of contributing to communities in need. As Decider commented, the cast which worked alongside Jeremy and his fellow superstars was also entertaining and diligent, as they teamed up together to make every project possible.
While “Rennervations” attracted positive reviews all around, the most important aspect of the show was helping others. However, when the show was filmed in 2022, no one could have imagined that Jeremy would suffer an accident a couple of months before “Rennervations” premiered in 2023. More importantly, the show was a big source of strength for Jeremy as he recovered from that tragic event in his life, as he said in an interview with Rolling Stone. This makes “Rennervations”’ purpose all the more sense, even if in an unexpected way.
What Happened To Jeremy?
In January 2023 Jeremy Renner suffered a serious accident when a snowplow ran over him. At the time, he was cleaning his Nevada house drive, but after leaving the driving seat of the vehicle, it started rolling down. According to some reports, Jeremy was saving his nephew’s life when he suffered the main injuries, though it’s unclear how exactly the accident happened, except for a police report which described Jeremy as ‘crushed’ by the vehicle.
Parts of the emergency call made by an unknown person affirmed that Jeremy had difficulties breathing, had his upper torso crushed, and was bleeding heavily. Jeremy’s injuries were so serious that he was airlifted to the Renown Regional Medical Center, in Reno. He was treated by the trauma center and had his life saved, yet he took a long while to recover. Jeremy was in the intensive care unit for several days, with the official diagnosis being orthopedic trauma and injuries.
Despite the serious accident he suffered, Jeremy took to Twitter (now X) on 5 January to say he was experiencing ‘brain fog’ but felt excited to watch a premiering episode of his show “Mayor of Kingstown”.
As seen in some of the social media reports, Jeremy was accompanied by his closest family during his 17 days-long stay in hospital.
Recovery
It took a long time for Jeremy Renner to recover from the horrific snowplow accident, but he got there, eventually. As the actor himself affirmed to ABC News in April 2023, the accident broke around 30 bones in his body, and caused a lot of anxiety in him, often leading him to wonder whether his physical condition and appearance would ever be the same again. He also recalled telling his family he was ‘sorry’ for the accident, and wrote a goodbye note for them, in case he didn’t survive the terrible situation.
Fortunately for Jeremy, the treatment and therapy he received allowed him to return to the road. In mid-2024, Jeremy appeared on the cover of Men’s Health magazine to show his scars. As he described the scars on his torso, they were ‘reminders’ of a ‘beautiful day which could have been really bad’.
His positive perspective on the accident also became evident in the way Jeremy described the situation to ABC News, as he said he had ‘lost a ‘lot of flesh and bone’ but gained something very valuable, which is a ‘refill of love and titanium’ in his life. There’s no doubt that his physical prowess wasn’t the only thing that saved his life, as Jeremy Renner’s mental strength and positivity played a big role in his miraculous recovery.
