Who is Brian Cage?

American bodybuilder and professional wrestler Brian Christopher Burton – widely known as Brian Cage – was born in Chico, California USA, on 2 February 1984, so Aquarius is his zodiac sign. He’s currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), but is more likely known best for the time he spent signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), when he was known as Kris Logan.

Education and early life

Brian was raised in Chico, but remains secretive when it comes to sharing with the public details of his parents and the siblings whom he might have; most of Brian’s fans believe that he’s an only child.

He became interested in working out at the gym while attending Pleasant Valley High School, and was 17 when he decided he would become a bodybuilder. Brian was interested in a couple of sports during his teenage years, as he wrestled, and played football for his school’s team, while he also enjoyed playing basketball and soccer.

Upon matriculating in 2002, he chose to pursue a career rather than a college degree.

Career as a wrestler

Brian became interested in wrestling at a quite an early age, after having watched a wrestling show together with his father. He attended a live wrestling match in Sacramento at the age of 12, and there met the late American professional wrestler Christopher Morgan ‘Chris Kanyon’ Klucsarits; Chris later became Brian’s mentor, and helped him enter the wrestling industry.

Chris and his friends founded the Main-Event Wrestling Federation in 2004, and Brian made his debut there, wrestling Chris; he wrestled Chris again a couple of weeks later, winning both times. Brian went on to compete at All Pro Wrestling and then moved to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in Deep South Wrestling (DSW), a professional wrestling promotion founded by WWE.

After WWE was no longer associated with DSW, Brian moved back to California, and wrestled for Fog City Wrestling, Supreme Pro Wrestling and All Pro Wrestling.

He signed a contract with WWE in June 2008, and started by wrestling for the Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW); he initially used Brian Cage as his ring name, but was asked to change it, which made him come up with Kris Logan. He and South African-American professional wrestler Phillip Paul Lloyd – aka Justin Gabriel – faced and defeated Trent Barreta and Caylen Croft, known as The Dude Busters on 23 July 2009, thus becoming FCW Florida Tag Team Champions; then….Brian and Justin lost the title only an hour later, to Duke and Bo Rotundo aka The Rotundos. Brian then began using Night Claw as his ring name, and was released from his WWE contract in September 2009.

He then began competing in Asia, but returned to the US to win the Main Event Wrestling California Cup, triumphing in his all three wrestling bouts; he defeated Kenny Dykstra at Main Event Wrestling in October 2010.

Brian went on to join the NWA Hollywood promotion in 2011, and also competed in Future Stars of Wrestling in the same year; he and American professional wrestler Brandon Gatson faced each other in the Match of the Year on 21 January 2012.

It was in 2012 that he signed a contract with Pro Wrestling Guerilla (PWG), staying with the promotion until 2017. His debut was a loss to Brandon Bonham on 30 July 2010, and he then founded the stable Fightin’ Taylor Boys, together with Ryan and Chuck Taylor. He became PWG World Champion at Death to All But Metal on 25 May 2012, and defeated Willie Mack at Failure to Communicate on 27 October 2012.

He entered the 2013 Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament together with Michael Elgin, with the wrestlers calling themselves ‘Unbreakable F’n Machines’; they became the PWG World Tag Team Champions by defeating the Super Smash Bros, but eventually lost the championship to The Young Bucks. Brian competed in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling from 2012 through 2014, and then in Lucha Underground from 2014 through 2018.

Brian’s been signed to Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide since 2015, and has in the meantime also wrestled in All Elite Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, becoming Impact World Champion on 28 April 2019.

In 2022, Brian signed with Ring of Honor, an AEW’s sister promotion.

Love life and marriage

Brian’s secretive when it comes to sharing the details of his love life with the public, but he’s still allowed his fans a glimpse into it.

He met American model and ring announcer Melissa Santos in 2016, when she worked for Lucha Underground and he was signed to the promotion. Melissa gave birth to their daughter Skylar Faith Button on 24 January 2018, after having been in labor for 36 hours.

Brian and Melissa married in a private ceremony on 12 July 2019, and they also had two other ceremonies during Impact Wrestling matches in August and September of the same year.

This is Brian’s second marriage, as he was previously married to a woman whose name hasn’t been disclosed, but with whom he has a son.
