Brian Dietzen spent one part of his childhood in his birth town of Barrington, until he moved with his family to Colorado. During the same year, he was cast as Owen in The WB’s sitcom “My Guide To Becoming A Rock Star”, and then teamed up with John Riggi to perform in the two-man theatre production of Steve Rudnick’s play “The Oldest Man In Show Biz”, at the Hudson Stage in Hollywood.
Rise to Prominence
In 2003, Brian Dietzen guest-starred as Bellhop in the episode “Stepmom, Misstep” of the UPN sitcom “One On One”, and then made his film debut in the role of Eddie in the musical romantic comedy film “From Justin To Kelly”, starring along with Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson.
Even though the film was named as one of the worst film titles ever made, it soon opened-up more opportunities for him.
Worldwide Recognition as Dr. Jimmy Palmer in “NCIS”
In 2004, he played ghost in the critically acclaimed independent drama film “Purgatory House”, directed by Cindy Baer, then later that year joined the cast of the CBS police procedural television series “NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service”. He starred in the recurring role of Dr. Jimmy Palmer, a medical examiner’s assistant, through 2012, when he was promoted to a series regular for its tenth season.
The series was created by Donald P. Bellisario and Don McGill, and is currently in its 18th season, the second longest-running scripted non-animated prime time television series in the US currently airing. Brian reprised the role in the 2012 short comedy film “NCIS: Special Agent DiNozzo Visits Dr. Phil”, but went uncredited. He also guest-starred in the same role in an episode of “NCIS: New Orleans”, a spin-off from “NCIS”.
Other Roles in the 2000s
Concurrently with filming “NCIS”, Brian continued to work on other projects. In 2005, he starred in the role of William Simmons in the comedy film “Self-Inflicted”, which was followed by his portrayal of Clerk in the made-for-TV action comedy film “Hit Factor” in 2008.
Thereafter, he appeared as Clay in an unsold pilot of the TV comedy series “Destined To Fail”, and played Sheldon Wilkes in the psychological thriller film “Nowhere To Hide”, both in 2009.
Projects in the 2010s
Brian Dietzen then guest-starred as Cole in the episode “Soul Music” of the Fox crime drama fantasy series “Past Life” (2010), and landed the role of Seymour in the comedy film “Seymour Sally Rufus” (2011). It was followed by his portrayals of Jim Riley in the family comedy-drama film “Congratulations”, which he also co-wrote and produced, and Louis in the romantic comedy film “Karaoke Man”, both in 2012.

In the next year, he guest-starred as Mark Leighton in the episode “Asylum” of the TNT crime drama series “Perception”, after which he produced and featured as James in the short romantic comedy film “One-Minute Time Machine” in 2014. Most recently, Brian produced the short documentary film “Lightning Vs. Thunder” (2019).
