Early life and education
Charles was raised in Dayton an only child by his mother who’s from the City of Manila, the Philippines, and his father who’s from Kentucky. Nothing else is known about his parents as they prefer to be left out of media.
Charles attended Stebbins High School at which he was apparently amongst the best students, and was interested in several sports while excelling in football. Upon matriculating in 2002, he enrolled at Miami University at which he was mostly interested in acting, and appeared in plays performed at both the university and a local theatre. Charles graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005, and then moved to Los Angeles, California to focus on his acting career.
Roles in TV series
Charles made his debut TV series appearance with his portrayal of an applicant in the 2005 episode “Don’t Mess with My Man” of the romantic comedy “Noah’s Arc”, and the same year saw him appear in the episode “Save the Last Dance” of the family fantasy comedy “That’s So Raven”.
He gained recognition in 2011, when cast to portray Liam Lupo in four episodes of the romantic family drama “Switched at Birth”, which aired from 2011 to 2017 and won eight of the 31 awards it was nominated for. The following years saw Charles play supporting characters in several series, such as the romantic comedy “The Game”, the crime drama “The Client List”, and the hit fantasy horror drama “The Vampire Diaries”.
In 2013, he was invited to portray Dr. Jason Myers in the critically acclaimed romantic drama “Grey’s Anatomy” created by Shonda Rhimes and which stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. The series has been airing since 2005, and follows the lives of people working in the surgical department of a hospital; it’s won 80 awards including two Golden Globes, while it was nominated for 232 other awards.

Charles’ most recent role in a TV series has been in 2021, when he portrayed Quentin Carter in the mystery crime drama “NCIS: New Orleans” which has been airing since 2014 and received mixed reviews.

Charles made his debut film appearance with his starring role in the 2009 short comedy “Thanksgiving Seconds”, then in 2010 he played Hicks in the crime drama “Night and Day”, but which failed to attract any attention.
The year 2012 saw him star in the musical video “Mi Ricordo”, and in 2015 Charles was invited to play Mike in the comedy “Ur in Analysis”, and Ramirez in the war drama “Battle Scars”, neither of which was successful, attracting little attention. The year 2018 saw him play the lead character Zane in the short drama “Younger: Candy Shop”, while he also portrayed Josh Wright in the romantic comedy “No Sleep ‘Til Christmas”, written and directed by Phil Traill, and which starred Odette Annable, Dave Annable and Jess Salgueiro. It follows the lives of a businesswoman and a bartender, who are both suffering from insomnia. The film won one of the three awards for which it was nominated.
Charles’ only two other roles in movies have been his portrayal of Jeff Williams in the 2019 romantic drama “Same Time, Next Christmas”, and his appearance in the 2020 music video “Kygo & Tina Turner: What’s Love Got to Do with It”.

In 2018, he began dating Monika Anne Clarke, who’s a popular Australian model and a social media star, with over 190,000 followers on her Instagram account. The two could’ve been seen attending various events together, however, they split after around half a year for unknown reasons.
As of March 2021, Charles appears to be single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and interesting facts
Charles is keen on painting, and is said to also be a skilled furniture builder.
He has been interested in eating delicious foods since a very early age, and in his early teens, even became interested in preparing it, ie cooking! He has stated in one of his interviews that he would have become a chef if he hadn’t made it in the film industry.
Aged ten, Charles was caught trying to shoplift headphones.
While attending college, he was charged with urinating in public – he was at a party and as someone passed out in the toilet, he went outside and was caught.
He’s physically very active, and has up to five training sessions at the gym each week, thus his muscular body.
Charles enjoys watching movies in his spare time – his favorite actor and actress are Vin Diesel and Anne Hathaway, while some of his favorite films are the franchise “Fast and Furious”, “Leon: The Professional” and “No Strings Attached”.
