Who is Lovie Simone?
Lovie Simone Oppong was born in New York City, USA, on 29 November 1998 – her zodiac sign is Sagittarius and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress who’s probably known best for her portrayal of Zora Greenleaf, one of the lead characters in the drama series “Greenleaf”, created by Craig Wright, and which also starred Merle Dandridge, Kim Hawthorne and Desiree Ross. In the series aired which from 2016 to 2020, it followed the Greenleaf family and their megachurch in Memphis, and won five of the 16 awards for which it was nominated.
Twin sister, family and education
Lovie was raised alongside her twin sister, another sister and a younger brother, in New York City, by their Ghanaian father and their African-American mother, however, nothing about their parents is known as they prefer to stay away from the media’s attention.
She began acting while still in elementary school, as her mother encouraged her to take part in a school play. Lovie instantly fell in love with acting, and went on to appear in numerous plays performed both at her elementary school, and later at her high school. Lovie has appeared in six TV series including “Greenleaf” and four movies She made her debut TV series appearance with her portrayal of Jasmin in the 2017 episode “Sing It, White Effie” of the critically acclaimed crime comedy drama “Orange Is the New Black” created by Jenji Kohan, and which starred Danielle Brooks, Taylor Schilling and Taryn Manning.
It follows Piper Chapman, who has been sent to prison for a crime she committed over a decade ago, when she sent drug money to her former girlfriend. The series aired from 2013 to 2019 and won 51 awards, while it was nominated for 143 others including six Golden Globes.
The same year saw Lovie play Gina Walker in the episode “The Forgotten” of the hit mystery crime drama “Blue Bloods”, which starred Donnie Wahlberg, Will Estes and Bridget Moynahan, and follows the lives of a family of New York police officers. The series won four of the 16 awards it was nominated for, including a Primetime Emmy.
In 2020, Lovie made her debut voicing performance in the episode “The Mystery of the Party Pines” of the animated mystery comedy “Dicktown”, while she also played Ayana in the episode “Pomp and Circumstance” of the comedy drama “Social Distance”, which starred Brian Jordan Alvarez, Asante Blackk and Becky Ann Baker, and follows various people who are trying to stay connected while being apart.
Lovie’s currently shooting as Davina for the upcoming crime drama “Power Book III: Raising Kanan”, created by Sascha Penn and will star Malcolm M. Mays, Mekai Curtis and Omar Epps.
Roles in movies
Lovie made her debut movie appearance with her portrayal of Renee Pickford in the 2018 drama “Monster”, written by Janece Shaffer based on the novel by Walter Dean Myers, and directed by Anthony Mandler. The movie starred John David Washington, Jennifer Ehle and Jeffrey Wright, and follows the life of a 17-year-old movie student who has been charged with a murder. It was nominated for a Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for Drama. In 2019, Lovie played Jenna in the popular mystery drama “Share”, written and directed by Pippa Bianco, and which starred Rhianne Barreto, Charlie Plummer and Poorna Jagannathan.
The movie’s about a 16-year-old girl who has to learn how to cope with the video featuring her when she was drunk, which has been uploaded onto the internet – it was nominated for ten awards, winning four.
The same year saw Lovie play Selah, the main character in the drama “Selah and the Spades” written and directed by Tayarisha Poe, and which also starred Celeste O’Connor and Jharrel Jerome. It follows Selah who’s the head of the faction The Spades, one of the five factions running the underground life of Haldwell School. The movie won two of the five awards it was nominated for.
Lovie’s only other movie role has been her portrayal of Tabby in the 2020 fantasy horror drama “The Craft: Legacy”, written and directed by Zoe Lister-Jones and which starred Zoey Luna, Cailee Spaeny and Gideon Adlon. The film follows a group of teenage girls who create a coven of witches, and was nominated for three awards.
Lovie has made guest appearances in episodes of the talk-shows “Celebrity Page” in 2019, and “The Real” in 2020.

Lovie hasn’t spoken of any boys or girls she has perhaps been with, and this is one of the reasons why there are many rumors circulating the internet concerning her current relationship status, as well as her sexual orientation.
Many of her fans believe that she’s a lesbian or bisexual, while some have even claimed to have seen Lovie being rather too close to a female friend at a club in Los Angeles, California. However, no proof has been provided to support these claims, nor has Lovie commented on this.
