British actress and producer Ruth Wilson, MBE – Most Excellent Order of the British Empire – was born in Ashford, Kent England, on 13 January 1982, making her zodiac sign Capricorn. She’s been credited with appearing in 33 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for playing Alice Morgan in 14 episodes of the mystery crime series “Luther”, created by Neil Cross, and which starred Idris Elba, Dermot Crowley and Michael Smiley. It follows genius murder detective John Luther, the series aired its 21 episodes from 2010 through 2019, and won 16 of its 96 award nominations.

Education and early life

Ruth and her brothers Matthew, Samuel ‘Sam’ and Tobias ‘Toby’ Wilson, were raised in Shepperton, Surrey by their mother Mary Metson who was a probation officer, and father Nigel Wilson who was an investment banker; Samuel’s today a BBC journalist. Ruth’s grandfather Alexander Wilson was an MI6 officer and novelist.

She studied at the independent Catholic Notre Dame School prior to progressing to Esher College; she launched her modeling career during her teenage years. Ruth matriculated in 1999 and then continued her education at the University of Nottingham, while she simultaneously studied acting at the Nottingham New Theatre.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in history in 2002, and then graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art with a Master’s degree in 2005; Ruth went on to co-found Hush Productions.

Ruth’s debut TV series role was playing the main character Jane in four episodes of the 2006 romantic mini-series Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre”; it also starred Toby Stephens and Lorraine Ashbourne, follows a governess who’s fallen for her master, and the series won seven of its 30 award nominations.
