Who is Tamzin Merchant?
Tamzin Merchant was born in Haywards Heath, Sussex England, on 4 March 1987 – her zodiac sign is Pisces and she holds British nationality. She’s an actress, film writer and director, who’s probably known best for her portrayal of Imogen Spurnrose in the 2019 crime fantasy series “Carnival Row”, created by Rene Echevarria and Travis Beacham, and which stars Orlando Bloom, Cara Delevingne and Simon McBurney. It’s been airing since 2019. and follows the relationship between a fairy and a human detective; the series has been nominated for 11 awards, including three Primetime Emmys.
Early life, family and education
Tamzin was raised in Sussex, but hasn’t shared any details concerning her parents as she respects their privacy. As she hasn’t mentioned having any siblings, she’s widely believed to be an only child.
She became interested in acting while attending Windlesham House School, and as soon as she matriculated in 2005, Tamzin launched her acting career with her portrayal of Georgiana Darcy in the critically acclaimed romantic drama movie “Pride & Prejudice”, and Margot Durrell in the comedy movie “My Family and Other Animals”. She still chose to focus on her education, and enrolled at Brighton College from which she obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in educational studies in 2009.

The year 2006 saw her play supporting characters in the dramas “The Good Housekeeping” and “Casualty 1906”, thend in 2008, Tamzin was cast to play Anna, one of the lead characters in the romantic drama “Radio Cape Cod”, written and directed by Andrew Silver, and which also starred Tamzin Outhwaite and O-T Fagbenle.
The movie follows three couples attending a five-day wedding.
The year 2009 saw her play Alice Davies in the biographical historical drama “Princess Kaiulani”, which received mostly positive reviews and won six awards, then in 2011 she played the supporting character Mary Rivers in the romantic drama “Jane Eyre” written by Moira Buffini, based on the novel by Charlotte Bronte and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. It starred Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender and Jamie Bell, and follows a governess who has got her employer to soften up while she then discovers his terrible secret. The movie won 10 of the 26 awards for which it was nominated, including an Oscar nomination.
Some of Tamzin’s following roles were in the 2011 science fiction “Red Faction: Origins”, the 2013 mystery crime thriller “Murder on the Home Front” and the 2014 romantic adventure drama “Copenhagen”.
In 2016, she played Kate in the biographical historical drama “The Dancer” which starred Soko, Gaspard Ulliel and Melanie Thierry, and follows the life of Loie Fuller and her relationship with Isadora Duncan while it won one of the 17 awards for which it was nominated.
Three of Tamzin’s most recent movie roles have been in the 2017 action adventure drama “Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire”, the 2019 short drama “Gifts of the Heart”, and the 2020 comedy drama “Running Naked”. She has finished shooting for the upcoming family fantasy comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, while she’s currently shooting for the short action “Ark”, and the drama “James and Lucia”.
Role in “Game of Thrones” and other series
Tamzin made her debut TV series appearance in the 2008 episode “Army of God” of the historical adventure drama “Bonekickers”, and in 2009, she portrayed Catherine Howard in the critically acclaimed historical romantic drama “The Tudors” which follows the life of King Henry VIII, created by Michael Hirst and which starred Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Henry Cavill and Anthony Brophy. It aired from 2007 to 2010, and it won 49 awards of the 131 for which it was nominated, including three Golden Globe nominations.
In 2009 Tamzin played Emilia Clarke in the pilot of the critically acclaimed action adventure series “Game of Thrones”, however, the episode was scrapped and reshot because of multiple problems, with Emilia Clarke invited to portray Daenerys Targaryen instead of Tamzin.
The year 2011 saw Tamzin play Miranda Aspern in two episodes of the mystery crime drama “DCI Banks”, while the following year saw her play Rosa Bud in two episodes of the mystery mini-series “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”. Between 2014 and 2017, she starred as Anne Hale in the fantasy horror drama “Salem”, created by Adam Simon and Brannon Braga, and which starred Janet Montgomery, Shane West and Seth Gabel. It’s based on the witch trials in Salem during the 17th century – the series was nominated for 14 awards.
Tamzin’s only other two roles in TV series have been in the 2017 action adventure drama “Supergirl”, and the 2019 romantic comedy mini-series “Thanks for the Memories”.
Writing, directing and producing credits
Tamzin wrote, produced and directed the 2015 short comedy film “American Virgin”, the 2016 short comedy drama movie “American Pride, and the 2017 short comedy film “American Carnage”. She wrote and directed the 2016 short movie “Juliet Remembered”, and in 2017, she produced the short comedy film “Incredibly Smart, Sexy, Bombshell Co-ed Named Debra”.
She sang the songs “Dawn” and “Georgiana” in the 2005 movie “Pride & Prejudice”, and in 2012 performed the song “Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms” in an episode of the mini-series “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”.
Tamzin has been featured in the 2006 short documentary video “The Stately Homes of Pride & Prejudice: Wilton House”, the 2013 short documentary film “Murder on the Home Front: Behind the Scenes”, and the TV special “Gold Movie Awards 2019”.

Tamzin won a 2017 Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best TV Supporting Actress for her performance in the series “Salem”, while the same year saw her nominated for an Oxford International Film Festival Award for Best Screenplay for the short film “Juliet Remembered”.
Love life and husband
Tamzin’s quite secretive when it comes to talking about her love life, but some details are still known. In 2011, she began seeing Frederick Samson Robert Morice ‘Freddie’ Fox, who’s a British actor probably known best for his roles in the biographical movie “Worried About the Boy”, the romantic action adventure movie “The Three Musketeers” and the series “Cucumber”. The two could’ve been attending most of their red carpet events together, but in 2013 they split for unknown reasons.
Since 2016, Tamzin has been in a relationship with Barney Douglas, a popular film writer, producer and director, perhaps known best for his work on the 2015 documentary film “Warriors”, and the 2019 documentary sports movie “The Edge”.
As of May 2021, Tamzin’s dating Barney Douglas, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and other interests
Tamzin likes to go shopping for clothes, and is a bit of a shopaholic. Her favorite color is red, and she enjoys wearing skinny trousers and A-line skirts.
She’s a philanthropist who’s probably known best for having contributed to the international development and education charity organization Build Africa.
Tamzin’s a dog-lover, and has just recently adopted a pet dog which can be seen featured in some of her Instagram pictures.
She likes to read books in her spare time, and has read over 100 since her early teenage years; she’s also the author of the children’s book “The Hatmakers”, published on 2 February 2021.
Tamzin’s keen on travelling ,and her acting career has taken her to various European countries and US states.
