Early Life, Age, and Education Background

Devon Edwenna Aoki was born in New York City, under the Leo zodiac sign on 10 August 1982, which makes her 39 years old as of 2021. She was raised in Malibu, California and London by her father, the late Hiroaki ‘Rocky’ Aoki who was the instigator of Benihana Steakhouse restaurant chain and a former Olympics wrestler – he passed away in July 2008 – and his wife Pamela Hilburger, a painter and jewelry designer. Devon’s father is Japanese while her mother is of English and German heritage.

The successful model was raised alongside six siblings, three sisters:  Kana Aoki, Echo Aoki, and Jenifer Aoki, and three brothers, Dj Steve Aoki, Kevin Aoki, and Kyle Aoki.

She attended The American School in London., and Aoki began modelling as a teenager at the age of 13, and a year later, her godmother introduced her to English model Kate Moss, who signed her to Storm Model Management. Two years later, Aoki had created a name for herself, which made her the ideal candidate for the face of Versace.

Aoki got her first invitations in 1997, from Balenciaga, Comme des Garçons, and Chanel, which saw her fame skyrocketing rapidly soon after she had been noticed by Kate Moss.

She made her career breakthrough in the year that followed, when she was selected to replace Naomi Campbell as Versace’s spokesperson. Year by year, she gained more recognition, and her career continued to flourish, through collaborations with Hugo Boss, Kenzo, Tiffany & Co, Yves Saint Laurent, and Lancome, and her participation in Baby Phat, Versace, Marc Jacobs, and Chanel shows.

As part of her modelling career, Devon has appeared in several popular magazines’ cover photos, including Nylon Magazine (US), Harper’s Bazaar (Japan), Wonderland (UK), Russh (Australia),  CosmoGirl (Korea), Elle Girl, and Vogue (Russia, Germany, and Korea); she has been on I-D Magazine’s cover three times now.

In the early 2000s, Devon took a break from modelling, only making a comeback in 2017 to model for Sephora x Moschino campaign. During the same year, she was named an iconic model and one of the most reputable supermodels of the 1990s by Dazed Digital’s Dominic Cadogan, who added that many established American photographers dreamt of having her face in their portfolios. She has ever since worked with many companies. In 2007, she made an announcement that she would be designing Asian Levi’s jeans line.

Aoki made her film debut in 2003’s “2 Fast 2 Furious” as Suki, a street race driver. She didn’t even have a driver’s license before featuring in this film, and so she had to learn to drive to fit in for the role.

She caught the public eye in 2005 when she appeared in the “Sin City” action movie, and later on featured in 2007’s “War,” “Mutant Chronicles,” and “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead” (2009).
