Who is Kidada Jones?
American actress and model Kidada Ann Jones was born in Los Angeles, California USA, on 22 March 1974, so her zodiac sign’s Aries. She’s appeared in only five movies and no TV series, and is perhaps still best known for her playing of Brandy in the 1999 drama “Thicker Than Water”, directed by Richard Cummings Jr, and which starred Mack 10, Fat joe and Ice Cube; it follows two gang leaders who want to become music producers.
Kidada’s also known for having been American rapper Tupac’s girlfriend at the time of his murder.
Education and early life
Kidada and her younger sister Rashida were raised in Bel Air, Los Angeles by their father Quincy Delight Jones Jr. who’s a famous record producer, singer-songwriter and composer, and mother Margaret Ann Lipton who was an actress, model and singer, and who died aged 72 on 11 May 2019. Rashida’s today a successful actress and screenwriter, and is probably still best known for her playing of Karen Filippelli in the hit mockumentary series “The Office”.
Kidada’s parents divorced when she was 11, and she stayed with her father, while Rashida lived with their mother. Kidada studied at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, and acting was amongst her main interests; she was also into fashion designing, dancing and singing.
Upon matriculating in 1992, Kidada enrolled at the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, but quit in the following year when invited to work for famous American fashion designer Thomas Jacob ‘Tommy’ Hilfiger.
Kidada’s career
Kidada worked as a celebrity stylist for the magazine “Vibe” in the ‘90s, as it was her father’s publication, and began attracting attention in 1995, when she was the late American singer-songwriter and dancer Michael Joseph Jackson’s stylist for the magazine’s cover.
Kidada was Tommy Hilfiger’s muse from 1993 through 2001, and she then spent three years designing clothes for famous American rapper Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr, known better as Snoop Dogg. Kidada also did some modelling work in the ‘90s and 2000s, having been featured in the magazines “Harper’s Bazaar”, “Vogue” and “Elle”.

In 2005, she was hired by The Walt Disney Company, and has since been designing clothes for Disney Couture.
Kidada’s also an author, having published the book “School of Awake” in 2017, which aims to motivate young girls to chase their dreams.
Acting credits
Kidada launched her acting career in 1999, with her portrayal of Jesse in the musical crime movie “Black & White”, written and directed by James Toback, and which starred Ben Stiller, Allan Houston and Claudia Schiffer; it follows a group of white teenagers who’ve become part of Harlem’s black rap crowd.
In 2002, Kidada was cast to play Aloha in the comedy “Intern”, which Michael Lange directed, and which starred Dominique Swain, Ben Pullen and Peggy Lipton. It follows a magazine intern who’s made her way from the mail-room to the boardroom, and is trying to find a spy in the company. Also in 2002, Kidada portrayed Sasha in the crime thriller movie “Empire”, written and directed by Franc. Reyes, and which starred John Leguizamo, Peter Sarsgaard and Denise Richards. It follows a drug dealer who’s found a broker to invest money for him, and the movie was nominated for two awards.
Kidada’s only other role has been her playing of Gordon’s Sister in the 2004 drama “Proud”, written and directed by Mary Pat Kelly, and which starred Reggie Austin, Vernel Bagneris and Marcus Chait. It follows the crew of a US Navy ship during World War II, and the movie was nominated for a Black Reel Award for Best Independent Film.

In 1996, Kidada dated the (now late) American rapper Tupac Amaru Shakur; she was staying at their hotel room in Las Vegas when he was shot on 7 September 1996, and was by his side at the hospital when he passed away on 13 September, aged 25.
In 1999, Kidada dated famous American actor and producer Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio, whe’s today one of the most popular actors worldwide, and is probably still best known for his performance in the 1997 romantic movie “Titanic”, the 2010 science fiction action film “Inception”, and the 2013 biographical crime movie “The Wolf of Wall Street”.
It’s widely believed that Kidada then dated American singer and actress Aaliyah Dana Haughton, although this hasn’t been confirmed.
