They’re also fitness enthusiasts, who’ve owned and managed several gyms in Riverview.

Career

Career Beginnings and “100 Day Dream Home”

Before venturing into the home renovation business, Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt  had several gyms. Brian launched his first Riverview-based Anytime Fitness exercise room in 2011, which was managed by Mika. The couple had opened a few more gyms by 2013, then in the mid-2010s, they sold one of their gyms to fund their real estate business.

In January 2020, Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt began starring in the HGTV reality TV show “100 Day Dream Home,” in which they help couples design and build unique homes in 100 days. Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt worked on their own dream home project in the season two finale of the show. Previously, the duo broadcast a music campaign across their respective social media platforms, and came up with 10 theme songs composed to accompany new episodes.

In addition to their on-screen career, Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt run the Tampa Bay-based design company, Dirt 2 Design, which customizes home renovations, and builds projects according to their customers’ individual needs.

Other Works

Following the success of “100 Day Dream Home,” HGTV gave Brian and Mika a big vote of confidence by casting them in the second season of the reality show “Rock the Block,” in which various HGTV personalities participate in a renovation competition, and are required to add value to existing homes on the same budget. Brian and Mika stood out and won the entire season, conquering at least three other teams, including both the Tiffany Brooks and David Bromstad, and Mike Holmes and Alison Victoria pairs.

Brian is a budding TV commercial director. In 2014, he produced six commercials for Doritos chips. His wife, Mika, starred in one of the commercials, which was selected for the January 2015 Super Bowl Contest.

Aside from his real estate business, Brian has acted in several plays performed in Florida’s local theaters. In 2014, he appeared in the production of Disney’s “TARZAN” by Manatee Players, and almost a decade later, he was seen in the same theater company’s 2022 production of “Titanic: The Musical.” Brian has also appeared in an episode of ABC’s “Shark Tank,” where he showcased his invention, EZPeeZ, which is a uniquely designed child’s potty training toilet seat. Although his pitch didn’t go well, and all the Sharks declined to invest in his product, Brian launched his toilet seat business independently, and currently sells his products on different online platforms.

Social Media Presence

Brian is active on Instagram (@mrbreakinground) with around 80,000 followers, while his wife, Mika, has nearly 125,000 followers on Instagram (@mikamakesmoves)

Personal Life

Brian and Mika first met while attending  Riverview High School. In an interview with “The List,” Brian spoke of his teenage crush on Mika and stated, ‘It was love at first sight for me, but it took a little bit longer to convince her.’ It’s reported that Mika once turned Brian down when he asked her to the homecoming dance. Although the duo went their separate ways after their matriculation, they ended up meeting again almost a decade later, in 2011. In another interview, Mika remarked ‘Obviously we were friends in high school, we had some classes together, so it wasn’t like that there wasn’t a friendship that developed… it’s just about timing. You’ve to go through your journeys in life and sometimes figure out who you are before you can actually have a substantial relationship.’ Brian and Mika exchanged vows on 10 October 2015, in Sedona, Arizona. Brian is the stepdad of Jade (born on 11 February 2009), who’s from Mika’s previous relationship. The couple hasn’t welcomed any children together.

Before Mika, Brian was married to the American model, Ericka Dunlap (2007-2011), who’s an alumnus of the University of Central Florida, and the first Afro-American student to be crowned Miss Florida, and in 2004, Brian’s ex-wife won the Miss America title. She’s currently running her Orlando-based consulting firm, Crown Communications Group, and is actively involved with various civic organizations, such as Coach, Mentor, and a Role Model. Brian and Erika were described as ‘a record-breaking couple’ for being the first interracial married pair to appear in the American version of “The Amazing Race 15.”
