Kate Abdo Wiki Bio
Kate Abdo (nee Giles) was born in Manchester, Lancashire England, on 8 September 1981 – her zodiac sign is Virgo, she holds British nationality, and is of Arabic descent. She’s a sports broadcaster who has worked in various European countries, including Germany, France and Spain, and also in the USA.
Early life and education
Kate was raised alongside her older brother in Manchester by their parents who prefer to be left out of media, while it’s known that they are both sports enthusiasts with their favorite sport being soccer. Kate, her father and brother, are all cheering for Manchester United while her mother cheers for Liverpool.
She attended Withington Girls’ School at which she became interested in sports, and ran track, played soccer and tennis. Aged 17, Kate moved to Spain wanting to learn the Spanish language, and she matriculated there in 1999. She went on to attend a college in Spain, studying translation and interpreting, and after a year Kate returned home to attend the University of Salford from which she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in European languages in 2003.
Career as a sports broadcaster
She launched her career upon graduating, joining the German Deutsche Welle international news network.
Kate was in charge of hosting sports coverage programs in both German and English, but after a year there, she began working for the multinational news pay TV channel CNN. She could’ve been seen hosting the show “World Sports” every day, while she also occasionally hosted the feature show “Inside Africa”.
She quit CNN after being invited to become the face of the sports news channel Sky Sports News HD in Germany. The channel was launched around that time, and Kate was involved in the early development of its entire programming. She move back to England when invited to join the sports channels Sky Sports, and Kate was in charge of hosting various events related to soccer, boxing and football.
In 2015, the channel lent her to Fox Sports to cover the Women’s World Soccer Cup and after this, Fox Sports offered Kate a move to the US to host their programs covering the largest European and world sports events, such as Soccer World Cup, Europa League and Champions League.
Kate spent several years working at Fox Sports, and hosted the show “Inside PBC Boxing”, and covered Fox’s Premier Boxing Champions. As the network soon lost its rights to cover the Champions League, Kate quit Fox and then got to cover the event for the American cable TV channel TNT. She has also been credited with covering various important soccer events, such as Laureus World Sports Awards and FIFA Ballon d’Or.
In 2020 she moved back to England, and began covering the Europa League and the UEFA Champions League for the network CBS Sports. Although she’s back in England, Kate is still covering boxing for DAZN.
Guest appearances in TV shows
In 2012, Kate made a guest appearance in an episode of the comedy talk-show “Die Harald Schmidt”, which aired 223 episodes between 2011 and 2014.
In 2013, she was invited to host an episode of the game-show “Shooting Stars – Promis an Ihren Grenzen”, and Kate then appeared in four episodes of the talk-show “Markus Lanz”, which has been airing since 2008 numbering over 1,300 episodes.
The year 2015 saw her appear in the game-show “1000 – Wer ist die Nummer 1?”, and in 2016 Kate was featured in an episode of the sports comedy game-show “A League of Their Own”, and she also served as the co-host of the sports TV special “Laureus World Sports Award”. In 2018, she hosted nine episodes of the reality game-show “Ultimate Beastmaster”, and in the same year voiced herself in the short animated comedy mini-series “The Champions”.
In 2018 as well, Kate hosted two episodes of the sports talk-show “Inside PBC Boxing”, and between 2017 and 2020, she served as the on-site host, a studio host and a floor reporter, for the sports series “Premier Boxing Championships”.
Love life and husband
Kate’s trying to keep details of her love life to herself, however, a lot is still known about her marriage, and her alleged current boyfriend.
In 2016 Kate exchanged vows with Ramtin Abdo, who’s a German investor and businessman and whose net worth has been estimated at over $20 million. Neither of the two have commented on any problems they might be facing as a married couple, however, it’s most likely that they are going through a divorce, as Kate has uploaded many pictures onto her Instagram account which feature her with her ‘friend’ Barak Bess. He’s a boxer and a TV show host, who has gone on several holidays to exotic places with Kate, thus appearing that the two are having an affair.
As of April 2021, Kate’s married to Ramtin Abdo, seems to be going through a divorce, and doesn’t have children.
Hobbies and other interests
Kate has been into languages since a very early age, and is today fluent in English, French, German and Spanish.
She loves to travel and has been all around Europe and the US, while two of her favorite US cities are New York City and Los Angeles, California. In June 2019, Kate announced on her social media accounts that she has received her green card, and has stated that although Americans are strange as they talk as if Europe was one country, go to the airport dressed as they are about to go to sleep, and put more ice in a drink than the actual drink, she still loves the country very much.
She’s a dog-lover, and her pet French bulldog can be seen featured in many of her Instagram pictures.
Kate would like to be a man for just a day, to see what it’s like.
In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies starring her favorite actor and actress Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet, such as the franchise “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Titanic”.
