Early life and education
Niamh was raised alongside her sister by their parents who prefer to be left out of media, thus not a lot about them is known. Because of their work, the family often moved, and Niamh lived in The Netherlands, the Middle East and South Africa, as well as in Malaysia; the family eventually settled in London, England.
Niamh grew up being interested in acting, and began appearing in plays while still attending an elementary school. She was also interested in singing and dancing, but her parents still insisted that she focuses on her education.
Upon matriculating in 2006, she enrolled at college, and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2010.
Niamh then turned to acting, and launched her career two years later.
Roles in movies
Niamh made her debut film appearance in 2012, with her portrayal of Amy in the short drama “Rat Trap”, written by Shaun Prendergast, directed by A. J. Quinn, and which starred Jonathan Akingba, Matthew Cavendish and Dani Heron. It follows the police investigating the death of a young woman who died at a wild party.
In 2014, she starred as Girl alongside James Kermack, in the short horror “Forever”, written and directed by Matthew R. Corbett.
Her only other movie role has been her portrayal of Alex in the 2015 short comedy “Send in the Clowns”, written and directed by Kate Shenton, and in which she starred alongside David Wayman and Adam Rhys-Davies. It follows David who’s dressing up as a clown, but scaring people in the streets.
Roles in TV series
Niamh made her debut TV series appearance in 2013, with her portrayal of Hannah Spence in the episode “Smoke and Mirrors” of the drama “Casualty”, and the year 2015 saw her play Young Maggie Kendall in the episode “The Cutter” of the action adventure mini-series “Jekyll and Hyde”.
She gained recognition in the same year, when cast to play Cara Martinez in the drama “Holby City”, which has been airing since 1999, and stars Hugh Quarshie, Rocie Marcel and Jaye Jacobs. The series follows the lives of patients, nurses and doctors, at Holby City General Hospital, and has won four of the 21 awards for which it’s been nominated. Niamh was a member of the cast for a year, and she then began playing Verity Rutter, one of the lead characters in the historical drama “Jamestown”, set in 1617, and which follows English settlers in America. In 2019, she was invited to play Greta Kleinschmidt in the episode “Hard Times” of the fantasy comedy mini-series “Good Omens”.
The series was created by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, starred David Tennant and Michael Sheen, and follows the lives of an 11 years old Antichrist, a demon and an angel. It was a hit, winning five of the 19 awards for which it was nominated, including three Primetime Emmy nominations.
In 2021, Niamh began starring as Jenny Ahern in the thriller “Smother”, which has so far aired six episodes, and follows Val Ahern, whose husband has been found dead the morning after a party organized by his close family members. Niamh’s most recent TV series role has been her portrayal of Young Ethel Cripps, in the action adventure drama “The Sandman”.
In 2020, Niamh made a guest appearance in an episode of the talk-show “Chatterbox”.
