Who is Kyle Mooney?

American actor and comedian Kyle James Kozub Mooney was born in San Diego, California USA, on 4 September 1984, so his zodiac sign’s Virgo. He’s had roles in more than 70 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for his playing of Don Atari in the 2016 action adventure comedy movie “Zoolander 2”, which Ben Stiller directed and in which he also starred alongside Penelope Cruz and Owen Wilson. The movie follows Hansel and Derek who’ve been lured into modelling in Rome, and the film won seven of its 24 award nominations.

Education and early life

Kyle and his older brothers Ryan and Sean were raised in San Diego by their father Brian Mooney who was an environmental planner and consultant, and mother Linda (nee Kozub) who was a journalist and worked for “The San Diego Union-Tribune”.

Kyle became interested in comedy and acting while attending Marshall Middle School, where his peers voted him ‘Most Likely to Become a TV Star’. He went on to attend Scripps Ranch High School, at which he was mostly interested in performing with its drama club; for his performance as Prospero in the school’s production of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”, Kyle won a Best Actor Award; he was also voted ‘class clown’.

Kyle matriculated in 2003, and then studied at the University of Southern California, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in film in 2007.

Roles in movies

Kyle launched his career in that year, starring in the short comedy “My Mom’s an MILF”, and some of his following roles were in the short comedies “Is My Roommate Gay?”, “Outrageous Fun”, and “420 Disaster”.

He gained recognition in 2012 with his portrayal of Jake in the horror comedy “Kill Me Now”, directed by Travis Long, and which starred Michael Swaim, Jacob Reed and Beck Bennett. It follows a group of teenagers who’ve thrown a party at a remote cabin in the woods, and are now being stalked by Driller Killer.

The following year saw Kyle play Father in the popular biographical comedy “iSteve”, while some of his next roles were in the music video “Miles Fisher: Finish What We Started”, the short adventure comedy “The Caper Kind/Swiss Mistake”, and the comedy “Youth Large”, all released in 2013.

In 2015, he played Niles in the popular romantic comedy “Hello, My Name Is Doris”, written and directed by Michael Showalter, and which starred Sally Field, Max Greenfield and Tyne Daly. It follows a woman in her 60s who’s interested in her younger co-worker, and the film won two of its 13 award nominations.

Kyle’s three most recent film roles have been in the 2019 animated action adventure “Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (voice role), the 2020 action crime comedy “Spree” and the 2021 crime comedy “Naked Singularity”; he’s currently shooting for the upcoming movie “No Hard Feelings”.

Kyle’s debut TV series appearance was in the 2010 episode “Nine Shots of Bourbon” of the comedy “Vicariously”, and the following years saw him appear in single episodes of the comedy “Remember When”, another comedy “Parks and Recreation”, and the comedy drama “Pretend Time”.

In 2013 and 2014, Kyle played Rory in the popular comedy “Hello Ladies”, created by Stephen Merchant and Lee Eisenberg, and which starred Nate Torrence, Christine Woods and Stephen Merchant; it follows a British man who’s come to Los Angeles, California in search of a woman to marry. In 2015, he appeared in the episode “Show You My Tips” of the comedy “Guy Code”, and could then have been seen appearing in an episode of the comedies “Drunk History”, “Me, Myself and I”, and “Podcast: The Ride”.

Kate holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the Tisch School of the Arts (New York University), and has had roles in close to 80 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for playing Kate in the 2015 romantic science fiction movie “Equals”.

Kyle and Kate haven’t spoken about when or how they met, but it’s believed that a mutual friend introduced them at a party in 2018.
