Early life and education

Kelsey was raised in Edmonton alongside her sister Kathleen by their parents, about whom nothing is known as they prefer to be left out of media. Kathleen has become a professional photographer, working mostly in her hometown.

Kelsey grew up dreaming about becoming either a popular actress or a model, but was urged by her parents to focus on her education.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson was born in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 26 November 1988 – his zodiac sign is Sagittarius and he holds Icelandic nationality. He was the first man to win World’s Strongest Man, Europe’s Strongest Man and the Arnold Strongman Classic competitions all in one year.

He was raised in Reykjavik by his father Björn who’s 6ft 8ins (2.03m) tall, and his mother Ragnheiður who’s also very tall. He began working out while attending a local high school, and in 2004 aged 16, Hafþór launched his career as a basketball player, when he joined the club Breiðablik. The following year saw him join FSu Selfoss, but he then broke a bone in his ankle and underwent surgery to fix it. In 2006, he moved to the club KR, but a year later returned to FSu Selfoss.

It was in 2008 that he met the strongman Magnús Ver Magnússon, who inspired him to become a strongman himself, and in 2010, Hafþór won various strongman competitions organized in Iceland including Iceland’s Strongest Viking, and Strongest Man in Iceland. In November 2010, he ranked second at the Jon Pall Sigmarsson Classic, and in January 2015 at the World’s Strongest Viking contest organized in Norway, he broke a thousand years old record by carrying a 1,430lbs (650kgs) and 33ft (10m) long log for five steps. Most recently, on 2 May 2020, he broke the world record by deadlifting 1,105lbs (501kgs).

Hafþór’s also an actor who’s probably known best for his portrayal of Ser Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane in the critically acclaimed action adventure series “Game of Thrones”, created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, and which starred Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage and Kit Harington. It follows nine families who are battling to control the lands of Westeros, aired from 2011 to 2019, and won 378 awards including a Golden Globe, while it was nominated for 616 other awards. In 2017, he played Mongkut in the American martial arts movie “Kickboxer: Retaliation”.

He’s a fan of tattoos, and has several tattooed on various parts of his body.

Hafþór was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy in March 2017; it’s a facial paralyses, which marks an inability to control his facial muscles.

He’s the Icelandic ambassador of the manufacturing company SodaStream International Ltd., and in 2016, Hafþór co-launched the alcoholic beverage brand Icelandic Mountain Vodka, which also makes gin.
