Who is Katie McGrath?

Katie McGrath was born in Ashford, County Wicklow, Ireland, on 3 January 1983 – her zodiac sign is Capricorn and she holds Irish nationality. She’s an actress and a model, who’s probably known best for her portrayal of Morgana in the adventure fantasy series “Merlin”, which starred John Hurt, Colin Morgan and Bradley James, and follows the early life of the legendary sorcerer Merlin. It aired from 2008 to 2012, and won four of the 29 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life and education

Katie was raised in Ashford alongside her two brothers Rory and Sean, by their mother Mary who worked for an Irish fashion designer, and their father Paul who’s into computers. Rory’s a film producer while Sean’s an online media manager.

Katie attended St. Andrew’s College International Baccalaureate, and it was her drama teacher who got her interested in acting by inviting her to appear in various school plays.

She was also physically active, as she was hoping to launch her modelling career as well. Upon matriculating in 2001, Katie enrolled at Trinity College, Dublin, from which she graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in history.

Following graduation, Katie began working as a fashion journalist, writing for the magazine “Image”. The movie is about the dinosaur Indominus Rex which was created by humans and has now escaped its containment, and is killing everyone in its path. The movie won 15 of the 72 awards for which it was nominated.

In 2017, Katie appeared in the hit action adventure drama “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”, written and directed by Guy Ritchie, and which starred Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law and Astrid Berges-Frisbey. Katie made her debut TV series appearance with her portrayal of Vixen in the 2008 comedy mini-series “The Roaring Twenties”, which gained poor reviews and attracted little attention.

In 2007, Katie began dating Jonathan Rhys Meyers who’s a famous Irish actor, musician and model, probably known best for his portrayal of King Henry VIII in the series “The Tudors”, which won him two Golden Globe nominations.

Jonathan and Katie were together for over a year before splitting ways for unknown reasons.

In 2010, she began dating the Irish actor Colin Morgan, after having met him on the set of “Merlin”. The two date for around six years and on 30 October 2016, Colin asked her to marry him. They have been engaged for more than four years now and there are rumors circulating the internet claiming that the two have wed in secret, however, this hasn’t been confirmed.

As of March 2021, Katie’s engaged to Colin Morgan, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Katie likes tattoos, and has one on her back which reads ‘Purity’.

She’s keen on reading comic books, and began buying them while attending elementary school. A couple of her favorites today are “Batman: The Killing Joke”, “Mister Miracle” and “Maus”.

Katie’s favorite actors are Nathan Fillion and Harrison Ford, and she’s a huge fan of science fiction movies. Her favorite movies of all time are the entire franchise “Star Wars”; she’s a collector of the Star Wars figurines.

She’s a dog-lover, and her pet dog can be seen featured in a couple of her Instagram pictures.

Katie has several training sessions at the gym each week, and is following a strict diet which involves not eating fast food nor anything with sugar in it.
