Who is Marilyn Milian?
American TV personality, lecturer and retired judge Marilyn Milian was born in Manhattan, New York City USA, on 1 May 1961, so her zodiac sign’s Taurus. On 21 March 2001, she became the first Hispanic arbitrator to preside over a courtroom show, when invited to join the cast of the crime reality series “The People’s Court”; it’s been airing since 1997, today stars our Marilyn, Harvey Levin and Curt Chaplin, and follows her as she’s deciding small-claims cases. The show’s won four of its 11 award nominations.
Education and early life
Marilyn was raised in Queens, New York City by her Cuban parents Georgina Milian who was a housewife, and father Jorge who worked as a general contractor; her parents taught her Spanish before English, and Marilyn’s today fluent in both.
The family moved to Miami, Florida when Marilyn was eight, and Marilyn subsequently studied at St. Brendan High School, and was a highly active student; Marilyn enjoyed playing a number of sports with her peers, and was also into dancing and practicing creative writing.
Upon matriculating in 1979, she enrolled at the University of Miami, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1983. She continued her education at Georgetown University’s Law Center, graduating with a Master’s degree in 1985, and earning her Juris Doctorate in 1987.
Career as a judge
Marilyn then worked at Harvard Law School for a year, in charge of work on the Guatemala Project as the director of training.
Marilyn then joined the Dade County State Attorney’s Office as the assistant state attorney, having been appointed by the 78th US Attorney General Janet Wood Reno. After having held the position for 10 years, Marilyn joined the Miami County Court, working in its civil, criminal and domestic violence divisions.
In 1999, she was appointed to the Miami Circuit Court’s Criminal Division by American politician and businessman John Ellis ‘Jeb’ Bush, and two years later, Marilyn joined “The People’s Court”.
She’s today working at the University of Miami’s School of Law as an adjunct faculty member.

“The People’s Court”
Marilyn took over the position of American author, TV personality and lawyer Gerald ‘Jerry’ Sheindlin in “The People’s Court”, and in its 2012-2013 season became the longest-serving judge on the show; its first judge was the late American TV personality Joseph Albert Wapner, who passed away on 26 February 2017, aged 97.
Marilyn’s fans have described her as ‘more animated’ in her role than the show’s previous judges, but have also described her as logical, levelheaded and good-natured, and that she doesn’t tolerate disrespect.
The show was parodied in a 2017 episode of the comedy show “Saturday Night Live”, in which Marilyn was played by American actress and comedienne Cecily Legler Strong; the case in the parody was between the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and former US President Donald Trump.

Love life and husband
Marilyn rarely speaks of her love life in public, but it’s known that she’s been married to former US assistant attorney John Schlesinger since 1993; not a lot has been revealed about John, but it’s known that he was elected to the 11th Judicial Circuit Court in Miami in 2001.
Marilyn gave birth to their daughter Cristina in 1996, their second daughter Alexandra followed in 1998, and on 28 November 2001, she gave birth to their third daughter Sofia. Marilyn and John prefer to keep their daughters away from media, but Marilyn’s still featured them in some of the pictures which she’s uploaded onto the internet.
She hasn’t spoken of other men whom she’s dated, but it’s believed that she was in a long-term relationship with a man whom she met while attending the University of Miami, but this hasn’t been addressed by Marilyn.
She’s married to John Schlesinger as of January 2023, and they have three daughters together.

Marilyn doesn’t have her own Instagram account, but has been featured in numerous pictures and videos uploaded onto ‘The People’s Court TV’ account, which numbers more than 75,000 followers.
In November 2011, some people accused Marilyn of being responsible for the disappearance of Michelle Parker; she went missing only a couple of hours after having appeared in “The People’s Court”, but the primary suspect remains her abusive boyfriend Dale Smith, who was featured in the same episode of the show.
Marilyn’s today living with her husband and their three children in Coral Gables, Florida, and but spends three days a week shooting for “The People’s Court” in Stamford, Connecticut.
She’s the spokeswoman for the Safe Online Surfing campaign, launched by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Marilyn was featured in the game-show “Who Wants to Be A Millionaire?” in 2019, and won $5,000 for Camp Fiesta.
