Who is Joel Embiid?
Joel Hans Embiid was born in Yaounde, Cameroon on 16 March 1994 – his zodiac sign is Pisces, and he holds Cameroonian nationality. He’s probably known best for playing for the Philadelphia 76ers, competing in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Joel was raised in Yaounde alongside his siblings Muriel and Arthur, by their mother Christine, and their father Thomas Embiid who was a military officer. He grew up playing soccer and volleyball, and dreamed about moving to Europe, to become a professional volleyball player. Joel was 15 years old when he started playing basketball, and after a year, he was noticed by a scout, who convinced his parents to let him move to the US to work on his skills.
He enrolled at Montverde Academy, but soon switched to The Rock School in Gainesville, Florida. Upon matriculating in 2013, Joel enrolled at the University of Kansas, but dropped out after only a year, making himself eligible for the 2014 NBA draft.
The Philadelphia 76ers selected him as the third overall pick, and he signed a rookie contract with them on 26 August 2014. However, Joel missed the entire 2014-2015 season because of a broken navicular bone. After a scan revealed that his foot wasn’t healing as the doctors believed it would, he had to miss the 2015-2016 season as well.
Following his amazing performance after he began playing, Joel was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team at the end of the 2016-2017 season.
