Who is Colin Campbell?

British-Jamaican author, TV personality and socialite Georgia Arianna, Lady Colin Campbell was born as George William Ziadie in St Andrew, British Jamaica on 17 August 1949, meaning that her zodiac sign’s Leo. She’s perhaps best known for the the seven books which she’s published about the British royal family, with some of the most popular being “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex”, “Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother” and “Diana, Princess of Wales”.

Education and early life

Lady Colin was raised alongside her three siblings in St Andrew, by their father Michael George Ziadie who was the owner of a department store, and mother Gloria Dey (nee Smedmore) who was a housewife. She claimed in an interview that her father was a Russian count, which would then make her a countess, and that her family’s ancestors include William the Conqueror and Charlemagne. The late British opera director Sir John Peter Jonas was Lady Colin’s cousin.

She was born with a rare genital malformation, having a deformed clitoris and a fused labia, and was assigned the gender ‘male’ at birth, because it was considered to be ‘the superior sex’; Lady Colin’s occasionally spoken of the issues which she had while growing up, mostly because she was biologically female, but was raised as a boy.

Her parents became wealthy during their time in Lebanon, and continued their trade upon coming to Jamaica. Lady Colin attended a local high school in St Andrew, and upon matriculating in 1967 moved to New York City USA, and enrolled at Fashion Institute of Technology, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1971.

In 1970, Lady Colin’s mother gave her $5,000 to undergo corrective surgery, and she then changed her name to Georgia Arianna Ziadie, also receiving a new birth certificate; she was at that time already signed to a modelling agency in New York City.

Lady Colin’s career

Lady Colin began attracting attention in 1982 and 1983, with the radio pantomimes “Dick Whittington” and “Sleeping Beauty”, which she wrote for the BBC.

She became somewhat famous following the publication of her 1992 book “Diana in Private: The Princess Nobody Knows”, in which she wrote about Diana’s affair with British cavalry officer James Lifford Hewitt, and her struggle with bulimia. Many people believed Lady Colin’s clams to be false, and called her a ‘fantasist’, however, most of her claims were soon proven to be true; the book found itself on The New York Times Best Seller list.

In 2012, Lady Colin published her book “The Untold Life of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother”, however, many of her claims in the book were criticized by the British people – British author Hugo Ralph Vickers dismissed many of her claims as ‘complete nonsense’ and ‘bizarre’. Lady Colin was also criticized for having published the book at around the same time of the 10th anniversary of the Queen Mother’s death, and various magazines, such as “The Independent” labeled her ‘the greatest gossip since Pepys’, and ‘untrammeled by fear or knowledge’.

Lady Colin’s most recent book “Meghan and Harry: The Real Story” was about Prince Harry and his wife Meghan’s love life, and was released in 2020.

Other books

The above mentioned books attracted a lot of media attention, and were highly criticized by both the public and the critics, but Lady Colin’s also published various other books, which failed to attract a lot of attention.

Her first book “Lady Colin Campbell’s Guide to Being a Modern Lady” was published in 1986, and was followed by “How to Master Any Social Situation” in 1988, “The Royal Marriages: What Goes on in the World of the Queen and Her Family” in 1993, and “A Life Worth Living” in 1997. In 1998, she published “The Real Diana”, and in 2009 “Daughter of Narcissus: A Family’s Struggle to Survive Their Mother’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder”.

The year 2016 saw Lady Colin publish her 10th book, “A Woman’s Walks”, and her 11th, “The Queen’s Marriage” followed in 2018; in 2019, she published “People of Colour and The Royals”.

Love life and husband

Lady Colin’s been married once. She’d known Lord Colin Ivar Campbell for only five days when they married on 23 March 1974, in a small and private ceremony attended by around 20 people; Lord Colin’s probably only known for being a son of the late Ian Douglas Campbell, 11th Duke of Argyll. Lady Colin revealed in an interview that she married Lord Colin because he ‘exuded strength, decisiveness and charm’.

The two separated after nine months of marriage, after rumors about her birth gender began circulating the media; it was reported that Lady Colin was born a boy, and later changed her sex, and she believed that Lord Colin had sold the untrue story to the media. Their divorce was finalized in May 1975.

She adopted Russian boys Dimitri ‘Dima’ and Michael ‘Misha’ in 1993, and they were both featured in the 2018 reality show “The Royal World”.

Lady Colin seems to be unattached as of January 2023, was once married to Lord Colin Ivar Campbell, and has two adopted sons.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Lady Colin bought a Grade I house in Sussex, England in 2013, and Castle Goring in West Sussex in the same year.

She was featured in the British show “Comedy Nation”, and in November 2015 made a guest appearance in the reality show “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!” In the following year, Lady Colin starred in the documentary movie “Lady C and the Castle”, which follows her restoring Castle Goring and turning it into a wedding venue. She could then have been seen appearing in shows “Salvage Hunters”, “Through the Keyhole” and “Celebs Go Dating”.

In November 2019, Lady Colin defended Prince Andrew, Duke of York in the show “Good Morning Britain”, after he was associated with American sex offender Jeffrey Edward Epstein; she then sued the tabloid “Daily Mirror” after they wrote that she defended ‘Jeffrey’s right to rape children’.

Lady Colin’s favorite actor is Benedict Cumberbatch, and her favorite movies “The Courier”, “Black Mass” and “The Child in Time”.

Lady Colin’s age is 73. She has brown eyes and blonde hair, her height’s 6ft (1.83m) and she weighs about 160lbs (72kgs).
